Playing Matchmaker Part II

The original post entitled "Playing Matchmaker" was so fun to create and was quite popular, so I decided to do a part II.

Eco-Friendly and Amazing American Smoke-Tree Tree Branch Buttons
 
These buttons were hand crafted from a branch of a down tree and are consecutive cuts from the branch. After doing some research, we determined that this species has the characteristics of the American Smoke-Tree. The buttons have a wonderful grain pattern with a rich reddish-orange center and light sap wood. Each button is approximately 1-7/8 inches x 1-3/4 inches and 3/8 inch thick.

These lovely buttons were hand crafted from a reclaimed branch of an oak tree. They would look gorgeous with this yarn. Each button has light rays running through it and gorgeous reddish-brown color with a splash of white. Because they are cut from a tree branch, they are not perfectly round, but have great character. The bark is still intact lending to their rustic charm.

These 4 lovely buttons are hand crafted from a cherry tree branch from a down tree. The buttons have gorgeous reddish-brown centers with light colored sap wood. Each button is approximately 2 inches x 2-1/8 inches in diameter and a 1/2 inch thick. The bark is still intact lending even more rustic charm.

Black Magic Core-spun Handspun Yarn by Whispering Acres

This is a fun and crazy yarn made from an art batt that contained a great mix of exotic fibers. The yarn has a nylon core thread and the fiber is spun around the core, which is why this yarn can be called "corespun" yarn. It is in shades of black, brown, cream and has a generous amount of sparkle in it.

The yarn is made from the following fibers: merino wool, bamboo fiber, alpaca, camel down, and yak fiber, as well as gold angelina for the sparkle.

Because it's a corespun single, it is an "energized" yarn with extra twist to it. This would make a great accent on a hat or mittens, or any number of other projects.

These buttons measure approximately 2-1/4 inches x 2-1/8 inches in diameter and 3/8 inch thick. The bark has been removed, and each button has been sanded smooth on all sides with the edges slightly rounded. Foraging Fibers believes that spinning yarn is an art form in and of itself. To celebrate this art, they have created a line of Artfully Spun Yarns that take into special consideration the interplay of colors, textures, and forms in a skein.

This yarn is amazingly soft to the touch. Alpaca yarn simply at it's best. It is spun fairly even, although with handspun you always will have some variation in size, which, I think makes hanspun yarn so special. It is two-ply, 5.4 ounces, and a light beige color. Worsted weight overall.

This yarn would make anything gorgeous that is to be worn next to the skin. Alpaca fibers have hollow spaces in them that give alpaca its loft and warmth. Alpaca contains no lanolin, so it's hypollergenic for most people, and these yarns are not dyed.

These naturally beautiful buttons were hand crafted from a tree branch from a down tree. The branch was splitting due to the drying process. To save this beautiful wood, I cut the branch in half to create half-circle buttons that are very charming. The wood is gorgeous and has a little bit of everything. Pale green-colored centers with streaks of dark purple, honey-colored sap wood, spalting, and circular grain pattern.






This thick and thin single ply yarn from Sheeping Beauty (http://www.sheepingbeauty.etsy.com/) was spun from Corriedale top and hand dyed by Christinamariepotter on etsy. It's another in her "Firefly" inspired series. This one for the character Mal. It has subtle shades of cream, café au lait and taffy browns. Soft and bouncy, this would make a terrific scarf, neckwarmer or maybe a hat.

This snowflake from One Clay Bead's Woodland Magic collection is dazzling!

This ornament/tag is made of stoneware pressed into vintage lace, hand cut so that no two are exactly the same, and glazed in a frosty white with terracotta undertones.
